What’s TL Check all about?

Back when I was doing fansub stuff on a regular basis,  my editor would often send me lines translated by other team members to “TL check”, or check the translation, and make sure everything is cool. The phrase sorta stuck with me, and sort of describes how I approach localized media — I’m always internally “checking,” even though I know it’s correct, just to see what makes it tick.

On this website, I’ve got two kinds of “checks” in mind, though. There’s translations I’d like you to check out — these are translations that I’ve done myself. Things like songs and chunks of dialogue that I’m playing with, to show what I’m working on/what I’ve done in the past.

The other kind of “check” is looking at how the pros translated something from Japanese to English, and seeing how they came to the conclusions that they did — and maybe play around with the lines myself, to see how I stack up!

Mind, unless we’re looking at a legendarily bad translation (Hi, Castle Shikigami II!), these “TL checks” shouldn’t be taken as an attempt to “correct” the official localization. Instead, it’s an attempt to give insight to the weird and wonderful world of localization via demonstration!

(More to come later!)

    1. Of course! I’ve got some ideas in the pipeline that I’ve already started work on, but I would really appreciate extra stuff to eye, as well!
